All the team at Mark Campbell Motors and a considerable number of our customers have a great deal of respect for the work carried out by our armed forces. Work that is quite often carried out in difficult and dangerous circumstances.
In Afghanistan alone some of the improvements achieved are remarkable.
In 2002 infant mortality was one of the worst in the world, surpassed only by Angola. One in six children died before the age of 5. only 11 doctors and 18 nurses cared for an average of 27,000 people. An estimated 25% of the population had no access to health care.
Today the infant mortality rate has dropped more than 33%. The investment in hospitals and medical care, now means that most Afghans live within one hour of medical care. Other massive improvement in education have also been seen.
This will have taken a lot of money. money invested by the world community including USA, UK and Pakistan to mention but a few.
But that money would have been useless without the men and women on the ground making those changes possible. Almost 75% of the UK troops in Afghanistan are engineers, craftsmen and tradesmen, their efforts and skills are making the real difference.
The ABF make sure that if these men and women are ever in need, they’ll be there to help and assist.
Our aim is to raise money for the ABF through our every day activities. More will become apparent as we move forward with this exciting and worthwhile project.
Our first opportunity will be our SsangYong launch party on the 27th October 2011. We hope to have representatives from the ABF with us, on the night and we know they would welcome your questions, comments and help.
